Lane Bryant’s New Commercial Deemed “Too Sexy” For TV

Lane Bryant’s advertisement is deemed too sexy for television. Do you think the commercial is too sexy? What do you think of “Plus sized” models?

Some call it a breakthrough and revolutionary, while some critics say it promotes an unhealthy weight. What do you think?

From the SELF magazine article:

The ad was so honest in its celebration of the female body, in fact, that major networks NBC and ABC refused to run it as is. Though ABC declined to comment, a representative from NBC told New York Daily News it turned down THIS BODYbecause the ad didn’t “comply with broadcast indecency guidelines.” The Federal Communications Commission defines indecency as “language or material that, in context, depicts or describes, in terms patently offensive as measured by contemporary community standards for the broadcast medium, sexual or excretory organs or activities.” The representative could be referring to the nudity and/or the breastfeeding that occurs in the video, but sources from Lane Bryant said they think the sizes of the models have something to do with the rejection. “I don’t think these models are any more nude than any other models we’ve seen on TV,” a Lane Bryant representative told New York Daily News. This is also not the brand’s first time struggling to get an ad aired. In 2014, a commercial featuring Ashley Graham was also banned.

We have to wonder if there is more to the big picture. Victoria secret seems to show just as much. The models are just much smaller.
