The jury isn’t out on this one. They’re already back (alas, they are sitting) and the science proves it. Sitting will kill you, even if you exercise. Yes that’s the headlines straight from the horse’s mouth on CNN. It appears it originally was posted in January, but they seem to be running today as a new story.. But it bears repeating.

Check out the CBS video on how sitting will kill you (Even if you exercise) and you might want to stand up to read and watch this one.  There is study after study (after study!) that CNN cites which shows that sitting will ultimately kill us. Time to get a walking desk methinks. I don’t even think a standing desk is enough for me.

One of your favorite activities may actually be killing you.

Our entire modern world is constructed to keep you sitting down. When we drive, we sit. When we work at an office, we sit. When we watch TV, well, you get the picture.

And yet, a new study that’s running in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that this kind of sedentary behavior increases our chances of getting a disease or a condition that will kill us prematurely, even if we exercise.

CNN gives some suggestions like get a walking desk, drink plenty of water, move your legs around, get up often if you sit at the job (or if you drive a lot get out and take breaks) If you watch lots of tv don’t DVR it or fast forward through the commercials, get up during those commercials and walk around (just be careful not to head toward the kitchen for unhealthy midnight snacks) Although maybe that won’t kill you as fast as the sitting might do!

I’m the first to admit. I’m a sitter. I grew up in the computer generation and while not a tv watcher, I spend hours in front the blue lights of the computer screen- especially for my job- like writing you this story. I think from now on I’ll seriously switch to standing and then a treadmill desk where 2 miles an hour is the average speed (trust me, It’s faster than you think!)
