Nine operations could not help her walk, but this great Dane did

By Erin Elizabeth

By the time Bella was 10 years old, she’d had to undergo 9 surgeries. Bella suffers from Morquio syndrome – a rare and inherited disease of metabolism which hinders her growth and makes it next to impossible for her to walk. That she can now actually walk is not due to any medical intervention but due to one special best friend. His name is George.

Bella has made so much progress. In fact, the family was recently astounded to see her laugh and play in the grass as her gentle giant protector looked on.

“I don’t remember the last time I watched my child run through the yard,” said Rachel Burton, Bella’s mom.  “Seeing her just run was amazing to us.”
