Folks, this really is a travesty. We must protect what natural habitat there is left intact and switch to sustainable energy sources. There are no other options. Remember, even the poisonous spray Dibrom- morbid spelled backward- used to kill mosquitos carrying Zika, has shown in studies to affect 98% of all wildlife. And that’s common knowledge.
If we don’t start acting like these facts are true, the World Wildlife Fund recently revealed that more than two-thirds of the world’s wildlife could be gone by the end of the decade.
According to the WWF’s latest bi-annual Living Planet Index, beginning in the 1970’s, the numbers of fish, mammals, birds, and reptiles- worldwide-  began to decline. That’s a vanishing rate of 2% a year.
WWF conservation scientist, Martin Taylor, explained how dire the situation is to CNN:
“This is definitely human impact, we’re in the sixth mass extinction. There’s only been five before this and we’re definitely in the sixth. It’s because we’re using so much of the planet and we’re destroying so much of (these animals’) habitat. Governments (need) to take action to halt the slow death of the planet because it isn’t just affecting wild species it’s affecting us too. This is a threat to our future as a species, what we’re doing to the planet. We only have one planet if we screw it up then we’re gone.”
The report blames the rapid extinction on habitat loss, over-exploitation of resources, pollution, and climate change. The species mentioned in the report are elephants as well as sharks and rays, a third of whom face extinction from overfishing. These are frightening times for our planet.
