I haven’t taken a day off in over three years unless you count being evacuated for one or two hurricanes that hit our house on a barrier island. I know. It’s first world problems, but not having a day off in three years can nearly kill you. Trust me.

And so, I decided to take a few days off and go to Central America and yet, found myself working when all of a sudden I started getting messages from family and friends asking if I was okay! Why, you ask? Well, they were on Facebook, reading in my group, and saw that someone said I’d been murdered. The problem? I am presently alive, in a storm, with little to no internet connection. But again, totally alive. In fact, I’m dictating to my editor to get this out to you all. No joke.

Please understand, I am not against multilevel marketing, it’s just not for me. I do, however, draw the line when a product line representative, whether MLM or not, lies and says that I’m dead (perhaps been murdered or maybe killed myself) and that I don’t have a CBD line, as they promote their own links on the thread. On my page. My group.

As my friends and family were scared to death thinking it might be true and they couldn’t reach me, all I could think of was, have people become this greedy? Why did I work for years for free (I bankrolled my site for most of the four years I have had it, this month marks the anniversary of my start in January 2014)? I make less than not only a nonprofit worker but less than someone who works at McDonald’s. Because I believe in what I do.

And so, I started my own CBD line, which you can check out here. As our team grows, I need to be able to pay them a living wage. A good living wage. They work really hard every day, as do I.

(Many of my family, which is big—I am Irish, adopted and have over 70 cousins—are on my page and have seen a few death threats written publicly on Facebook. They know that my car was stolen outside the health food store I go to on my regular routine, my papers stolen about the holistic doctor deaths, and then the car was found burnt out after it was set on fire and crashed through a brick wall. The local detectives had never seen anything like it. But they didn’t seem concerned that I was a journalist, and now I can’t even get them to return my calls to get pictures.)

So, let me be clear to people from MLM and non-MLM companies:

Please, don’t go to my page and promote your product in this group because this group is dedicated to the holistic doctors who have died.

Don’t lie and say I was murdered. My elderly relatives might read it and have a heart attack. Do you want their death on your hands?

I have yet to see an apology from the company rep who posted, and won’t hold my breath. Every day I see despicable stuff on the web but nothing quite this gross. Take a step back and look at your core values—not just money. You are better than debasing yourself for a bit of cash, you’re better than lying about people…it’s just not worth it. Selling a few more bottles of your product by saying I was murdered is not cool, nor is it good karma. That’s all I ask. Would your mother or father like to read on the internet that you’re dead? Would you like it if you were outside the country and something like this happened to you?

I love you all. Thank you to everyone who came to my defense.

From Erin Elizabeth, somewhere in Central America, trying to take a couple of days off. But very alive.
