Walmart supplier is recalling 90,000 lbs of beef

This may surprise some, but not us here at Health Nut News.

The Huisken Meat Company is having to recall some of its Sam’s Choice beef products, sold exclusively at Walmart because they may contain fragments of wood. Wood. Let that sink in. Also interesting to note, the recall is merely a Class II (“This is a health hazard situation where there is a remote probability of adverse health consequences from the use of the product”) meaning the USDA feels the risk is low.

Hungry yet?

The recall has been issued for almost 90,000 pounds of “Sam’s Choice Black Angus Vidalia Onion frozen beef patties”, which contain six beef patties, and were produced between Nov. 19 and Dec. 9, 2015.  The boxes have a May 17, May 29, or June 6 “use by date”. During their production, workers discovered pieces of wood present in an added ingredient purchased by Huisken (which they got from an external supplier).

While no one has reported an injury, because of its Class II category, the company is asking anyone who purchased the beef to throw it away or return it to Sam’s.

Bon apetite!
