NBC: J&J ordered to pay $72M for cancer death linked to their baby powder

J&J ordered to pay $72M for cancer death

Jackie Fox, of Birmingham, AL, began the civil suit with her son taking over following her October 2015 death. Her son Marvin said that using the talc-powder was just a habit. Sadly, it was one that ended up killing her.

This case, the first among more than 1,000 nationally, is the first to result in a jury awarding any money to the plaintiff. It took the jury nearly five hours of deliberations at the end of a three-week trial, to come to their decision. According to the jury, Fox was, “entitled to $10m in actual damages and $62m in punitive damages”. Attorney’s expect Johnson & Johnson to appeal the verdict.

From the CBS article:

“In May 2009, a coalition of groups called the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics began pushing Johnson & Johnson to eliminate questionable ingredients from its baby and adult personal care products. After three years of petitions, (which we helped promote!) negative publicity and a boycott threat, the company agreed in 2012 to eliminate the ingredients 1,4-dioxane and formaldehyde, both considered probable human carcinogens, from all products by 2015.”

(We had a story on Health Nut News about this that went viral to the over 1 million readers who also helped make this possible.)

We don’t want to mix J&J up with SC Johnson “a family company” who also has their sordid past.  One FAMOUS JOHNSON HEIR WHO WORKED AT Johnson even plead guilty to molesting his own young step child for years. Funny thing is- both make products with harmful chemicals that people seem to eat up. The irony.

But back to the recent death of this woman they say is caused by Johnson & Johnson:

During the trial, Ms. Fox’s attorneys introduced a September 1997 J & J internal memo, from one of their medical consultants, into evidence. It suggested, “anybody who denies [the] risks” between “hygienic” talc use and ovarian cancer would be publicly perceived in the same light as those who denied a link between smoking cigarettes and cancer: “Denying the obvious in the face of all evidence to the contrary.”

We hope that the rest of the jury’s in the pending cases will be as distressed by the company’s conduct and products, as this last one was. It’s 2016 after all, no one, especially not a company this size with the access it has to research- should continue to turn a blind eye to these ingredients which are harming and in some cases- killing us, anymore.

additionally, formaldehyde, identified as a carcinogen in the above article, is in vaccines.- that many states are mandating-

It would be great if you could change the picture to be an accurate representation. Cornstarch powder is not the problem, it’s the powder containing talc that has been reported to have a link to cancer.

  • i know. it’s on the right (see the picture and see the talcum baby powder?) I wish i had some baby powder handy, but don’t use the stuff. i can only legally use what my stock photo provider has available. Same one used by FOX Reuters and NBC.

I’m not sure why you would put that paragraph in about Sam Curt Johnson III. He is an heir to S.C. Johnson, not J & J. Those are 2 different companies but don’t let the facts get in the way

Uggh go live on an Island with the other Non Vacs and lets do an experiment how long you guys last…

What kind of usage is linked to cancer? Just applied on skin, use as a feminine hygiene product, or inhalation of the micro-particles talcum powder produces?

  • not sure. Since hundreds if not thousands of others are now suing too? I think it’s best just to skip altogether. Of course I don’t ever recommend Johnson& Johnson products:-)

  • Acensustaker

Oh, geez. Just get a box of cornstarch and let that be your alternative powder. Works fine and you can even eat it.

Provide healthy food and clean water, natural herbs in case sickness does come up, and coconuts on that island and I guarantee the islanders will not only outlast you, but be so much healthier than you you would not believe it.

How do you suppose the human race survived for so many hundreds of thousands of years? I think our immune system was pretty good before the human population was brainwashed into believing that it was lacking and needed toxins, dna, preservatives, antibiotics, viruses, etc, etc pumped into it along with all kinds of unnatural pharmaceuticals. And do you ever wonder why we have so many autoimmune diseases, cancer, neurological disorders, etc. etc: Please think about it logically and not through the lens of all the propaganda you have been fed for all the decades of your life by corporations that profit from your beliefs and practices and literally have billions stashed offshore that should be recirculating in the country and taxed but instead is contributing greatly to the national debt. Just look up which corporations have billions stashed and you will see many big pharmaceutical companies yet they have convinced the government that they should not be liable for any damage done by vaccines. Wow, huge profits, little liability. Of course they are going do all they can to advertise their product and suck more and more profits out of the citizens they claim to help and protect. This is the most heavily vaccinated generation and also the first generation not expected to outlive the previous generation. Go figure. And if you really want to look into this and not just repeat what you hear you should study the history of the town of Liecester England who chose cleanliness and care over vaccines and fared far better than other towns who relied on vaccines to save them. You can read an excellent account of it in a book called “Dissolving Illusions”.

What about the perfume or fragrance added; Those are unregulated and often contain cancer toxins…. Why automatically assume it is the magnesium product that may have beneficial qualities… I believe this is just another case of misinformation… Just like sun is supposedly bad for you or salt or other essential vitamins… We are all victims of tobacco science…. I say show me the data before trying to convince me…. ie placebo vs product for over 1000 patients.. That is real proof! 1 person winning a court ruling then thousands jumping on board is nothing but verbal diarrhoea imho…..
