Michigan mom, Rebecca Bredow, from the Detroit area, is ready to go to jail if she needs to. And all because she doesn’t want to have to vaccinate her son.
When Bredow and her husband were married, they agreed to space out their son’s vaccinations. However, after their separation and after Bredow did her own research, she decided she was no longer comfortable with their son having any vaccines at all. Her ex disagreed and the judge sided with him in November 2016, requiring her to fully vaccinate their son.
However, as the primary caregiving parent, she feels like it’s her right to make the decisions about what’s best for her son, “I would rather go to jail for standing up for what I believe in than vaccinating my child.”1
We stand beside you, Rebecca.
And now, Bredow has only days to comply or face jail time, “Now I have four-and-a-half business days … to fully vaccinate, they want me to bring him up to the fullest extent medically allowed, which would be up to eight vaccines, in one dose. And this is supposed to be done before 9 a.m. on Wednesday.”
While the state allows parents to opt-out of vaccines for non-medical reasons (our editor lives in Michigan and has opted out for her children) there are two parents here, with two different opinions.
And, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, vaccines are super safe and super important, so…
‘”Vaccines have been part of the fabric of our society for decades and are the most significant medical innovation of our time,’ the group said. ‘Vaccines are safe. Vaccines are effective. Vaccines save lives.'” 2
We will continue to monitor this story for you and let you know not only what happens but how you might be able to help/support Rebecca in her struggle to protect her son from the state.
