Local Osteopath Killed in Crash

It is with a heavy heart that I bring you the story of an Osteopath, Steven Peligian, who was killed this week in Rhode Island. Witnesses say there was a second vehicle involved which authorities are still seeking.

Like the famous ABC news holistic MD I wrote about last month, who died in an alleged accident in Hawaii, I will not count this in my unintended series of doctors who have died.  There are 13 in that series and none died of accidents.  The majority of the 13 are established murders or alleged suicides.

My heart goes out to the family and loved ones of Dr. Peligian. My better half is an Osteopath as well and it’s tragic to see stories like this.

From the article:

The driver who died following a rollover crash on Interstate 95 in Warwick Sunday night was a local doctor (Osteopath) from North Kingstown.

Rhode Island State Police said Steven A. Peligian, 58, was not wearing his seatbelt when his 1996 GMC Yukon SUV rolled over around 7:15 p.m. Sunday in the southbound lane near Exit 10.

Emergency crews rushed Peligian to Rhode Island Hospital where, according to police, he was later pronounced dead. A passenger in the vehicle, Peligian’s girlfriend, was wearing a seatbelt, according to police. She was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

We truly hope they find this other mystery vehicle soon (which is described in detail, in the video above). If you have any information please call local authorities in Rhode Island.

“Dr. Peligian laid a foundation of remarkable and comprehensive care for a population that is often marginalized,” said Linda Hurley. “He had a passion for the people he served, and his compassion was limitless.”

We will keep bringing you important and breaking news stories even though it may be difficult to deliver.
