J. Geils, the guitarist who founded The J. Geils Band, was found dead in his home, of natural causes late Tuesday afternoon. The police who found him around 4 p.m. were responding to a well-being check. He was declared dead at the scene.

Although foul play is not suspected, his death is still being investigated (standard procedure for all unattended deaths).

“Geils, born John Warren Geils, formed the popular Boston-area band in the late 1960s. He was well known for such early 1980s albums as Love Stinks and Freeze Frame, which included the chart-topping single ‘Centerfold.’”

He was 71.

We’ve lost so many amazing artists in the last year. I know that everyone has their allotted time, but it’s still such a sad day and a loss we are all certainly feeling.
