Texas inmates spring to action, breaking down a gate, in order to save a guard’s life that seemed to have slumped over with a heart attack.

The guard, who had wished not to be named, has experienced a full recovery and is due to return to work, although, without the brave move from inmates would probably have died.

“It never crossed my mind not to help whether he’s got a gun or a badge,” inmate Nick Kelton told WFAA News. “If he falls down, I’m gonna help him.”

So many prisoners are in jail for non-violent offenses, many for drug related crimes.  Fighting drug addiction is no joke and often, good people are stuck in the rut.  It shows, in this instance, as Kelton, an admitted meth addict, is serving his fourth prison sentence.  He is also a hero.

The prisoners broke down the gate, knowing full well they could be shot in the confusion.  They screamed and alerted other guards that were upstairs in court, who swiftly came down to confront the situation.  They thought there was a fight but actually it was an altruistic act to save a man’s life.
