A company in Houston has recalled, “nearly 1,800 pounds of ready-to-eat salad with chicken products because a corn ingredient may be contaminated with salmonella and listeria.” 1 So far, there are no reports of anyone getting sick.

Symptoms of a salmonella infection are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever while listeriosis can cause diarrhea, fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions.

The recalled salads were produced from Oct. 1st-18th with a “best by” or “best if sold” date of Oct. 21 or 22nd. The salads with a “P-44056” mark from the USDA were shipped to Colorado, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. Some of the products were even sold under the Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s labels:

  • 10 ounce (283.49 gram) packages of “365 BY WHOLE FOODS MARKET BBQ STYLE CHOPPED SALAD WITH CHICKEN”
  • 8 ounce (226.79 gram) packages of “365 BY WHOLE FOODS MARKET CHICKEN FAJITA SALAD”

XO- Erin
