Even those of us who have never been parents are feeling the full weight of the grieving orca who, after more than two weeks, is still carrying her dead calf around. The 20-year-old whale known as J35 continues to swim around off the tip of Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, with the rest of her pod who have also helped her.

The calf died July 24th.
