Google used to be a weird word, and search engine, that no one really “got”. And then they BLEW UP! Well, now it appears they can add predictions to their list of abilities as they have predicted we are headed for a plant-based revolution (sounds good to me, especially if it’s truly organic)

From the article:

“Eric Schmidt, executive chairman of Google’s parent company Alphabet, has named the number one “game-changing” trend of the future as the consumption of plant-based proteins instead of meat. In a report by Fortune, Schmidt spoke to thousands of investors and business executives at the Milken Institute’s Global Conference. Schmidt has dedicated his career to identifying worldwide technology trends, and discussed plant-based food as one of six upcoming technologies that will significantly improve society, including mobile medical data, self-driving cars, and computers that pinpoint effective teaching strategies for individual students.”

Of the five technologies, in terms of global impact and overall improvement on people’s quality of life, plant-based proteins won. If we were to grow and harvest more plants, we could significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and in the process, fight climate change.

But not only would it help the environment, it would benefit poorer communities. Replacing animal protein with plant protein would lower food costs for impoverished communities, especially developing countries. Our world can be fed more efficiently AND less expensively with plant-based proteins.

However, if you hate tofu- don’t worry. Schmidt says, “The world is now ready to better produce synthetic food from plants with the help of computers and data crunching.” (What do you think of that part?)

Time is of the essence. As we continue to watch our environment suffer (degradation and global food scarcity, to name a few) it’s more important than ever to look to the future and it seems that future just might be- plants. Lots and lots of yummy plants, with real organic plant based products I hope.
