It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of rock legend Eddie Van Halen, who lost his battle with throat cancer.

Even though I was a New Wave Gothic listener, Van Halen was always one of my very favorites at heart. I had their album 1984 and have been listening to it ever since.

I was fortunate enough to see them at a sold out show in Jacksonville where I literally had to buy a scalped ticket just so I could get into the show. I worked my way up in the crowd and got near the front, and Eddie Van Halen was amazing.

RELATED STORY:

His son Wolfgang, 29, who was the band’s bassist since 2006, shared a touching memorial on Tuesday, confirming the heartbreaking news:

“I can’t believe I’m having to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning. He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift.”

“My heart is broken and I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover from this loss. I love you so much, Pop.”

In his honor, we will be doing our parody versions of their songs on video very soon, and I am so truly sorry to announce this tragic news.

Our thought and prayers are with his friends and family at this time.
