Fluoride Officially Classified as a NEUROTOXIN

A recent report from The Lancet, the world’s oldest medical journal, has officially classified fluoride as a neurotoxin. This places the compound in the same category as arsenic, lead and mercury. Because many have long held the belief that fluoride is dangerous, people have launched campaigns to remove it from their water supplies and while some have been successful, there is more work to be done. Many dentists still see fluoride as a positive, perhaps this will change their perception.

Waking Science reports that in the study, the authors note, “…neurodevelopmental disabilities, including attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, dyslexia, and other cognitive impairments, are now affecting millions of children worldwide in what they call a ‘pandemic of developmental neurotoxicity.'” Because fluoride is found in many places, toothpaste, food, certain brands of tea (check here for more info) and our water supply (mostly seen as a cumulative toxin in our bodies which can become a problem over time, like dental fluorosis or worse), it’s important to take as many precautions as possible.

From the article:

“…untested chemicals should not be presumed to be safe to brain development, and chemicals in existing use and all new chemicals must therefore be tested for developmental neurotoxicity. To coordinate these efforts and to accelerate translation of science into prevention, we propose the urgent formation of a new international clearinghouse.”

The fluoride in our drinking water has been linked to some cancers like bone, bladder and lung (and don’t let people tell you fluoride is natural because what they put in our water is functionally different than naturally-occurring calcium fluoride) and in areas where fluoridation is high, children have significantly lower IQ’s- again- the same thing we are seeing in Flint, MI with lead.

Fluoride is a dangerous poison. Ask yourself why America is still adding fluoride to the water supply (which a high quality water filter can filter out, perhaps it’s time to invest in one) when many countries have said no (here’s a list from our friends at Alt Health Works:

-Austria, where “toxic fluorides” are not added

-Belgium, which says that those who want fluoride should acquire it themselves

-Finland, where authorities have noted that there are better ways to stop cavities (through natural methods most likely)

-Germany

-Denmark

-Sweden

-Norway

-The Netherlands

-Hungary

-Japan, which notes that calcium fluoride is the type needed and not industrial sodium fluoride, and regulates the amount as well

(Note: all facts are from the website Fluoridation.com).

Israel recently announced a ban as well, as have parts of Africa.

In Europe, only Ireland (73%), Poland (1%), Serbia (3%), Spain (11%), and the U.K. (11%) fluoridate their water supplies according to the Fluoride Action Network.

The report, released in The Lancet Neurology, Volume 13, Issue 3, in the March 2014 edition, by authors Dr. Phillippe Grandjean and Philip J. Landrigan, MD, can be viewed by clicking here.
