Sunshine Mills is recalling three of its puppy and dog food products- Evolve, Sportsman’s Pride, and Triumph- due to potentially high levels of vitamin D.

The company said that when Vitamin D is consumed at very high levels it can lead to serious health issues in dogs, including renal dysfunction. Other symptoms include “vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst and urination, excessive drooling and weight loss.”1

The following foods should not be fed to pets:2

  • Evolve Chicken & Rice Puppy Dry Dog Food
  • Sportsman’s Pride Large Breed Puppy Dry Dog Food
  • Triumph Chicken & Rice Recipe Dry Dog Food with a “Best Buy Date Code of November 1, 2018, through November 8, 2019”

If your dog has eaten any of these foods and has exhibited any of the aforementioned symptoms, take them to a veterinarian immediately.

The company says that no other Evolve, Sportsman’s Pride or Triumph products were affected.

There have been other brands who have recently issued recalls as well, due to high amounts of Vitamin D: Elm Pet Foods, which uses Sunshine Mills’ facilities, ANF Inc., Nutrisca, Natural Life and the grocery chain Lidl (for Orlando brand dog food).
