Denver has approved the first US law to allow people to use marijuana in bars and restaurants throughout the city.

It’s called Proposition 300 and it allows bar and restaurant owners to decide if they want to allow marijuana use inside of their establishment.  It can’t be smoked, though the businesses have the option of opening an outside patio for smoking.

Currently, Colorado state has not legalized (or made illegal) smoking pot outside and, so, it is left up to the cities or local communities to decide how to handle it.  Denver is the first to legalize within businesses.

“It’s the sensible thing to do,” said Emmett Reistroffer, a Denver marijuana consultant and campaign manager for the pot-in-bars measure. “This is about personal responsibility and respecting adults who want to have a place to enjoy cannabis.”
