After testing positive for listeria at their plant in California, Nestlé’s has issued a nationwide recall of Drumstick ice cream cones. Thankfully, at this time there have been no reports of illness and none of the Drumstick products have tested positively for listeria. The positive test result came from equipment located on a production line at its facility in Bakersfield, California.

Nestle has announced a voluntary recall of its Drumstick ice cream cone products.

The voluntary recall includes the Drumstick Club 16 count Variety Pack and the 24 count Vanilla Pack, which were made between August 31 and September 17. The affected product identification codes are available on the FDA’s website.
The problem was detected through internal testing but some products still accidentally shipped to stores, hence the recall. Nestlé is asking customers not to eat the ice cream and to return them to where they were purchased or to contact Nestlé Consumer Services.

However, Nestlé wants everyone to know that this issue is NOT like the deadly Blue Bell recall and hopefully won’t be! While both recalls involve listeria and ice cream- the similarities end there:

“Our situation is much different from Blue Bell’s in a number of significant ways, including: They have made statements like A) we have no listeria findings in the ice cream itself; B) we have only one product line affected; C) we have only one facility affected; and D) we self-identified this event and took precautionary steps to recall product.,”
Let’s hope. We will keep you posted.
