If you’ve spent any time on our site you know about the dangers of phthalates. But just in case, here’s a quick breakdown of these harmful chemicals:

  • They can pose a risk to small children and pregnant women because they can affect male hormones.
  • They have been associated with genital birth defects in infant boys.
  • They can cause learning and behavioral problems in children.

While phthalates aren’t intentionally added to food, they can be ‘indirect’ food additives when they escape from food contact materials. 1 And in this case, the foods we are talking about are processed and fatty, like Kraft Mac and Cheese. There are many reasons why you shouldn’t be eating this “food” (or feeding it to your kids) and this is a big one.
