Denver Broncos player Von Miller, who was also SuperBowl 50 MVP, is under investigation for reeling in a hammerhead shark while fishing off the coast of South Florida.1

Killing the shark would have been a wildlife violation but it appears that after taking a photo with the large shark, it was released back into the ocean. The photo and video he shared to his accounts have been taken down.

As you can see from the picture, the shark is bloodied and worse for wear. This catch seems cruel and unnecessary to me.

Because it’s unclear if the shark was dead or alive (it floats away on its side before disappearing under the water in the vid) the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is looking at whether or not a violation occurred. PETA is also working with officials to get to the bottom of what happened.

It is possible that Miller could face a second-degree misdemeanor charge, punishable by a fine of up to $500 and 60 days in jail.
