There are those who think that everything is better when you’re high; “food tastes better, music sounds better, and, of course, sex definitely feels better,”1 but is there any way to actually prove that? Like, scientifically?

Apparently, yes.

Scientists at Stanford University (who had nothing better to do?) conducted a study to confirm that “weed” takes sex to another level. The study was published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.

Analyzing data from 28,176 women and 22,943 men, researchers set out to “elucidate whether a relation between marijuana use and sexual frequency exists using a nationally representative sample of reproductive-age men and women.” 2 And they found that marijuana use is “independently associated with increased sexual frequency and does not appear to impair sexual function.” 3 In fact, they found that for those who smoke daily, sex is a lot more frequent. Twenty percent more frequent than those who don’t smoke weed at all.

And in another JSM published study called “The Relationship Between Marijuana Use Prior to Sex and Sexual Function in Women” researchers at Saint Louis University in Missouri found that weed can significantly improve things in the bedroom: 4

  • 133 sexually-active adult women at one particular, academic ObGyn practice, were poled by filling out a lengthy questionnaire regarding marijuana use before sex, during their annual check-ups. (hashtag #MUBS)
  • Thirty-eight women disclosed consuming cannabis prior to copulation.
  • Of those 38 women, 68 percent reported more pleasurable sex, 16% said it ruined their sexual experience, while the remaining 16% were undecided or unaware.
  • The same team later widened the scope of their survey to 289 adult MUBS women, with similar results: 65% decided it enhanced their sexual experience, 23% said it did not matter one way or the other, 9% had no significant feedback and 3% said it sabotaged their sexual experience.

Basically, researchers found that Weed + Sex = Amazing.

Just keep in mind that not all kinds of weed might be good for sexy time. But don’t worry, if you find yourself legally buying cannabis to smoke recreationally, just ask the weed sommelier to make a suggestion!
