The city of Austin, Texas just announced that they are offering free chicken keeping classes and offering a $75 rebate for anyone who purchases a chicken coop, reported KVUE-TV. It’s all a part of their Resource Recovery Home Composting Rebate Program, whose goal is to help Austin reach zero waste by removing food waste from the landfill. Bacteria-Infected Mosquitoes Released To Fight Zika & Other Viruses

Just last week, the Florida Keys Mosquito Control District released THOUSANDS (20,000 to be exact) of male mosquitoes infected with naturally occurring Wolbachia bacteria into the ecosystem in the hopes of combating the dreaded Zika. The hope is that the wild female mosquitoes will mate with the lab-bred mosquitoes and when that happens, the offspring produced won’t survive to adulthood- if their eggs even hatch.
