Arby’s, the roast beef sandwich specialist with the slogan “We Have the Meats,” has rejected the idea of offering plant-based meal options. They may be the largest chain to do so.

When they spell out the meaning of their slogan, which they’ve used since 2014, they are sure to point out they mean real meats only. Their decision to never offer plant-based meal options goes against the grain of one of the biggest trends in fast food. In fact, they have even gone so far as to release an official statement saying at no time will they ever offer plant-based meat.

It appears their announcement was provoked by an article posted earlier this week on “ultimate source for all-things vegan,” in VegNews, titled “Arby’s Looks to Add Plant-based Impossible Meat to Menu.”1 The story quotes tech site The Information, which states that Impossible Foods claims Arby’s reached out to them as a potential investor during their recent $300 million dollar funding round. The tech site went on to say that “Arby’s didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.”1

This headline did not sit well with Arby’s, who decided it was time to make an official comment.

“Contrary to reports this week, Arby’s is not one of the restaurant companies interested in working with Impossible Foods. The chances we will bring plant-based menu items to our restaurants, now or in the future, are absolutely impossible.”1

Arby’s position is certainly interesting since so many people are moving towards a more plant-based diet. Hopefully one day soon there will be a good, healthy organic plant-based burger added to menus everywhere.

Hmmm…never say never Arby’s, anything is possible!!
