An animal shelter in Oklahoma is joining the momentum of the nearly 1.9 million enthusiasts who have signed up to storm area 51 in September by inviting the masses to storm their animal shelter and beam up some pets.

OKC Animal Shelter shared the message in a Facebook post last week that’s already gotten more than 11,000 shares. The post read:

Come storm our shelter. We have great animals ready to protect you from the Area 51 aliens. Adoption isn’t that far out of this world! #stormtheshelter.1

The shelter hopes the post will help them find forever homes for its rescue cats, dogs and pigs. They also shared pictures of the cute canines wearing tinfoil hats. And it seems their extraterrestrial marketing campaign is working.

“I adopted him!” Melissa Littel commented with a photo of 3-month-old Lab mix Sam at home, sans his hat.

“Piper has been adopted,” the shelter commented Monday morning on a photo of the 3-year-old pointer and boxer mix (shown in this story) wearing a piece of tinfoil molded into a cap with antennae.1

The highly unclassified media campaign has been a huge hit. So much so that the Animal Welfare Department is “alien-izing” more adoptable pets. The shelter wrote in a follow up post, featuring a cute alien dog named Daisy:

“The response to #stormtheshelter has been out of this world!”1

The OKC Animal Shelter is the only shelter in Oklahoma City. They currently have 116 dogs, 39 cats and two pigs up for adoption.

The Facebook event that inspired the doggy dress-up, “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us,” is of course, satire. Nonetheless, it currently has over 1.9 million confirmed “attendees.” It has also encouraged a celestial collection of celebrity and brand responses from Guy Fieri, Lizzo, Lil Nas X and Butterfinger, to name a few.
