It would be difficult to accurately measure the amount of food wasted every day in restaurants and hotels around the world. But one caring and compassionate chef has found a way to make sure the leftovers from his hotel are sent to animal shelters.

Motivated by the desire to make better use of valuable kitchen waste, Chef J Gourmet and his team at the five-star Fairmont in Hotel in Abu Dhabi have come up with a plan, called Doggy Bag Initiative, to offer these leftovers to four-legged friends in need of a good meal. He is also calling on other hotels to join the Fairmont in this awesome initiative.

Thanks to a collaboration with Animal Action EAU, leftover brunch is now food for well-deserving animals. The leftovers are separated and packaged in the hotel kitchen and then delivered to the Cloud9 Pet Hotel and Care.

They Deliver the food to the local “Cloud 9” pet hotel and wait to see if the stray animals will eat it.

The initiative has been a huge success. Chef Gourmet added:

“We want more hotels and restaurants to join us in the fight against throwing away leftovers so that they don’t become rubbish but food for other creatures.”
