Here we go again Blue Bell! On Monday, ice cream from Wells Enterprises Inc. was recalled over concerns about listeria. The ice cream in question was two batches of Blue Bunny Hoppin’ Holidoodle but the company decided to also pull any Blue Bell that included cookie dough, which was created by Aspen Hills Inc. (Blue Bell says it has identified the potential problem). The Blue Bell ice cream was distributed to Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

This makes the 3rd recall of Blue Bell products; last year it had to stop production and issue a recall for ALL of its products due to a listeria outbreak (3 people died) and then just last month there was another recall, which has now been expanded.

Please remember, if you have any of the following products take them back to the store for a full refund or throw them out:

  • Blue Bunny’s Hoppin’ Holidoodle is a seasonal flavor distributed in six states: Nebraska, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Arizona and Texas. The recalled lots have a best-by date of February 13 or 14, 2018. A full list of associated codes is available on the FDA’s website.
  • Blue Bell Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough or Blue Bell Cookie Two Step half-gallons or pints, produced between February 2 and September 7, 2016.
  • Three-gallon containers of Blue Bell Blue Monster, Blue Bell Chocolate Chip Cookie or Blue Bell Krazy Kookie Dough, with those same dates, are also subject to the recall.
(You can also find a list of the codes associated with these products on the company’s website.)
Listeria can cause fatal infections, although most people typically have short-term symptoms like a high fever, stomach issues, headaches (for the elderly, pregnant, or those with compromised immune systems, symptoms can include stiffness and miscarriage).
Questions about the Blue Bell recall can be directed to 979-836-7977 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time Monday through Friday.  Consumers with questions about the Blue Bunny recall may call Wells Enterprises at 1-800-331-0830.”
